Introduction SharePoint 2007 provided the capability to add custom ASMX web services. Web Services could be deployed to the LAYOUTS folder, or could be deployed to the ISAPI folder and supported accessing site settings and list data under the SharePoint user context. Introduction When I started to play with Telerik Rad controls under SharePoint, I realized, that the massive changes should be made manually to web application's web.config file. Therefore the DeploymentFeature application was created. It presents the SharePoint feature, which applies all needed changes to the web application's web.config file. Moreover it installs needed dlls to the GAC. In general this application can add any modifications to the web.config, by reading them from an external XML file, which has structure similar to web.config . Introduction I needed a conference room scheduler that prevented duplicate assignments, in SharePoint 2007, to replace a classic ASP application that depended upon a different authentication model than we were planning to use in our SharePoint upgrade. I also wanted to remove anything specific to our building layout from the existing conference room scheduler, so it could be applied to other resources. Microsoft’s Room and Equipment template, at first, seemed to be the perfect solution, but its shortcomings were soon evident. The biggest issues were: the user interface did not follow SharePoint standards, and details of the reservation were not visible.
